by-cosmetics

Frequently asked questions about 100% natural, organic by-cosmetics: ingredients, usage, skincare, for kids, and sun protection. Pure chemical-free formulas — answers from the Bali brand.

  • Company

  • The Concept

by-cosmetics is a 100% natural cosmetics brand, fully manufactured in Indonesia (Bali).

"Fresh food for your skin!" — that is the company's motto. In our production, we use over 170 plant and herbal ingredients of the highest quality, collected in eco-friendly areas all over the world: living seaweeds, fresh aloe juice, essential oils of ginger, magnolia, vanilla, cinnamon, and rosemary; jojoba, coconut, cocoa oils, and many more. All synthetic, harmful, or inactive filler components are strictly excluded from our cosmetic formulas.

  • Philosophy

Cosmetics can be considered food or nutrition for the skin. Given this, anyone who uses cosmetics should know what is included in its composition. The ingredients of all by-cosmetics products are listed both on the packaging and on the company's website. Our company operates with full transparency. We do not test on animals and are deeply committed to eco-friendliness. We care about the planet: no inorganic waste is generated throughout our manufacturing process, and for packaging, we use cosmetic-grade aluminum, which is highly recyclable.

  • What is the unique advantage of the brand?

Our company is the only one in the world that uses FRESH, deep-dwelling seaweeds in its formulations. These unique marine plants provide an instant lifting effect for the skin and give a powerful boost to cell regeneration.

  • How are natural cosmetics different from organic?

The term "organic" applied to cosmetics means that the plants used in the products were grown without pesticides or hydrocarbon (petroleum-based) fertilizers, were not exposed to wastewater or radiation, and are non-GMO.

There is a specific voluntary certification system to confirm the organic origin of cosmetic ingredients.

by-cosmetics confirms that it manufactures cosmetics using ingredients, some of which are certified organic. However, a large portion of the ingredients used by by-cosmetics grows in the wild (coconuts, seaweed, etc.). These "wild-harvested plants" cannot be officially certified as organic, and it would be misleading to claim a 100% organic composition.

Nevertheless, we strictly monitor the quality of the raw materials used in our manufacturing. We always pay close attention to the reputation of our suppliers and the sustainability of their production and packaging.

  • Eco-friendly cosmetics: a global trend or a marketing gag?

Eco-friendly cosmetics are a rising global trend, fueled by the demand for sustainable, healthy, and ethical products. Consumers seek natural ingredients, low environmental impact, and cruelty-free practices, reflecting broader shifts toward wellness and eco-consciousness. by-cosmetics, for example, uses 100% natural, locally sourced ingredients in a GMP-certified facility, truly embodying this movement.

Yet, marketing gags cloud the landscape. Some brands use “green” buzzwords, eco-style packaging, or vague “natural” claims to deceive consumers. Pseudo-eco products may still include synthetic ingredients, undermining their promises. To identify authentic eco-friendly cosmetics, always review the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) list for transparent ingredient disclosure.

  • Why is the factory located in Indonesia?

  • Problem skin with acne. What to do?

Oily, combination, or dehydrated skin, excess sebum, enlarged pores, comedones, blackheads, and consequently, inflammation, acne, rashes, and irritations are common problems!
In the womb, our skin is formed at the same time as our intestines. The relationship between the gut and the skin is undeniable. The purity of our intestines directly affects the purity of our skin. The more the gut is clogged, the more our skin suffers.
You need to remember — true health comes from within!

The first thing we advise you to do is to clean up your diet! It is crucial to stop the intake of food toxins that affect gut health. Remember, a healthy gut means beautiful skin! Refined sugars, refined oils, and foreign animal proteins (meat, dairy) are all things that pollute our bodies.

With the help of cosmetics, you can HELP the skin, but often the root cause must be addressed and treated from the inside.

Beware of cleansers containing sulfates, silicones, glycols, paraffins, ethanol, etc. Such products completely strip the skin of its natural oils, disrupt the integrity of the stratum corneum, and remove Marchionini's acid mantle, which naturally protects our epidermis and maintains a healthy pH (acid-base balance). Thus, by over-cleansing the skin, we alter its acid-base balance, leading to the disruption of the microbiome and a decrease in local skin immunity, which in turn causes inflammation, peeling, and acne.

Incorrect cleansers deprive our skin of its protective layer, triggering excessive sebum production to restore the pH, causing the skin to become oily or combination. The sebaceous glands cannot cope with the large volume of sebum, resulting in the blockage of the sebaceous ducts and, consequently, closed comedones and acne.

You also need to know that you should only wash your face with cleansers ONCE A DAY. No matter how natural your skincare products are, you shouldn’t strip the protective layer of the epidermis unnecessarily. In the morning, it is enough to simply wash your face with water. By using the silk washcloth for washing, you gently cleanse the skin without disturbing its acid-base balance while also enjoying a gentle exfoliation effect!

A set of products that will help problem skin:
Silk washcloth Silken Touch, Facial Foam Cleanser, tonic Fresh, peeling mask Royal, raw seaweed mask Decos, Hydrate For Oily-Combination Skin, Clove essential oil, Tea Tree essential oil.

  • Why do I need to warm the mask over a steam bath?

by-cosmetics masks, made from fresh, unprocessed ingredients without synthetic preservatives, have a short shelf life and require refrigeration. Warming them over a water/steam bath before use activates the nutrients, ensuring maximum skin benefits.

  • What masks can be applied around the eye zone?

Facelift and Beauty masks can be applied around the eye zone, but avoid getting too close to the lash line.

  • Are your cosmetics addictive?

by-cosmetics products are not addictive. Made from natural plant ingredients, they provide instant rejuvenation, cleansing, and freshness, creating a desirable effect without chemical dependency.

  • At what age should I start using the lifting masks?

Use lifting masks based on your skin's condition, not your age. They may be needed at 30, or not until after 35.

  • Why do I experience skin redness right after using facial masks?

Temporary redness (lasting 5–30 minutes) after using by-cosmetics facial masks is a normal reaction, not an allergy. The rosemary extract in all our masks boosts blood microcirculation and metabolism, driving rejuvenation, cleansing, toning, and deep nourishment.

  • Are your cosmetics safe?

Yes, by-cosmetics products are completely safe. We use only natural, evidence-based ingredients, strictly avoiding harmful or questionable chemical components.

  • Can the by-cosmetics products cause allergic reactions?

People with sensitive skin can safely use by-cosmetics products, but we recommend testing for individual allergies first. Apply a small amount to your wrist or inner elbow and leave it for 10 minutes. If no redness or itching occurs, you can confidently use the product as recommended.

  • Can pregnant or nursing women use these cosmetic products?

Yes, our all-natural cosmetics are safe for pregnant or nursing women and their babies, with the exception of the Cayenne anti-cellulite mask, which should not be used in the first or third trimester. Please check the specific product descriptions on our website for any additional notes on pregnancy restrictions.

  • What product should I choose for eye-contour care?

For eye-contour care, choose the Serum or a Hydrate. Both feature light, hypoallergenic oils that are ideal for the delicate skin around the eyes.

  • What is Hydrate?

Hydrate is a lightweight alternative to day facial creams, ideal for sensitive skin, including the area around the eyes. Made with jojoba, apricot kernel, and avocado oils, it absorbs quickly, providing intense nourishment and hydration while protecting against environmental damage. It enhances metabolism, restores skin tone and structure, and offers strong antioxidant properties. The non-pore-clogging formula penetrates deeply, maintaining breathability, elasticity, and an even skin tone. Infused with rare magnolia and ylang-ylang essential oils, plus rosemary extracts, it slows collagen and elastin breakdown, preventing premature aging.

The by-cosmetics Hydrate is not a substitute for a tonic or serum. It is used instead of a heavy face cream. You can apply the hydrate over the serum if you feel that your skin needs extra moisture.

  • How should I apply the facial oil?

Apply the facial oil to dry or wet skin. Rub a few drops between your palms to release the essential oil's aroma. Use an amount suited to the target area (face, neck, décolletage), determined by how your skin feels. Proper dosage leaves a healthy glow without a greasy shine.

  • Do you have any sunscreen products?

Yes, the Matahari sunscreen offers SPF30, protecting against 97% of UVA/UVB rays. It contains vitamin- and mineral-rich oils and extracts with strong antioxidant effects. It is completely safe for pregnant women and children.

  • Are there any UV filters in the body butter?

Yes, the body butter contains natural UV filters inherent in the oils, offering light protection (SPF <10). For higher protection levels, synthetic chemical ingredients would be needed, which we strictly avoid. Always limit direct sun exposure, especially from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • What cosmetics can remove age spots?

Prolonged and consistent use of the Royal mask will make dark spots less visible and leave your skin tone much more even.

  • Which products are suitable for flaky and irritated skin?

For flaky and irritated skin, use the Royal and Beauty masks. Use them on the same day, sequentially. Apply the Royal peeling mask first, rinse it with water after 15-20 minutes, and then immediately apply the Beauty facial mask, rinsing it off after 30-40 minutes. Repeat this treatment 2-3 times per week to significantly improve the skin condition, and then maintain the results by repeating it once a week.
